Germán Arroyo

Assistant Professor
Universidad de Granada (Spain)

👋 Hi there!

My name is Germán Arroyo and I’m a computer science researcher with over 20 years of experience in computer graphics.

My primary focus has been on Non-Photorealistic Rendering (NPR) techniques. NPR is a field that explores alternative visual styles beyond photorealism, aiming to better align with human perception. Its applications are diverse, from artistic creation tools to specialized display systems that enhance visualization in challenging scenarios (e.g., visualizing airflow patterns or internal structures). With the rise of Generative Diffusion AI Models like Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, I’m increasingly exploring the potential of transformers and deep learning in this domain.

Throughout my career, I’ve maintained a strong interest in applying computer graphics techniques (including NPR) to Cultural Heritage preservation. This field strives to conserve historical and archaeological artifacts for future generations. By combining computer graphics with cultural heritage research, we can digitally record artworks in detail, capturing their unique properties. This technology also facilitates the recreation of artifacts, both physically and virtually, and even enables the reconstruction of lost elements degraded by time.

Current Areas of Interests:

Computer Graphics, Cultural Heritage, Generative Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, GPU optimization.
